MANILA, Philippines — A man tagged in the kidnapping of an Indian man in 2017 was arrested in Muntinlupa City, police said yesterday.
Arnold Vargas was nabbed in Barangay Ayala Alabang on Friday, according to the police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG).
Probers said Vargas was allegedly responsible for kidnapping Anial Kumar Sohal in Biñan, Laguna in August 2017.
The suspect and his three other accomplices allegedly demanded P935,000 from Sohal’s family in exchange for his release.
Police said the victim’s family dropped off the ransom money at the Southwoods Exit of the South Luzon Expressway where a gunfight ensued between AKG operatives and the suspects.
Sohal was rescued while Vargas escaped during the shootout. His cohorts were killed by police.
Vargas is being held by police on charges of kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention.
