TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — A councilor of Pinabacdao town in Samar was killed in a gun attack on Monday.
Samuel Lagario was on a motorcycle with Roberto Balundo, also a councilor, on their way to attend a municipal council session when unidentified men in a black sport utility vehicle asked them to pull over.
The gunmen shot Lagario several times after asking Balundo to get off the vehicle.
“I was shocked... I can’t do anything. The three armed men had their faces covered with bonnets... Their car has no plate number. I will bring myself to court as a witness,” Balundo told The STAR.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered 24 bullet casings from a rifle.
Lugario’s wife Trixi said she was not aware of a grudge against her husband, adding that he was not into any illegal activity.
Pinabacdao Mayor Terry Mabag called on authorities to provide assistance to the family of the victim.
