Typhoon-hit communities in Agusan del Sur get aid

MANILA, Philippines — As part of his continuing effort to help communities devastated by natural disasters recover faster and build back better, Sen. Bong Go personally visited Trento and La Paz town in Agusan del Sur on Saturday to provide aid to 1,384 victims of Typhoon Vicky, which hit the area on Dec. 18.

Some 554 beneficiaries in Trento were given aid during an activity held at the D.O. Plaza Park in Barangay Poblacion, while 830 beneficiaries received assistance in another activity held at the La Paz Municipal Gym.

Go led the distribution of meals, food packs, masks, face shields, medicine packs and vitamins to typhoon victims.

Go’s team also went to La Paz a day earlier to provide similar assistance to another 922 beneficiaries in a distribution activity which was also held at the La Paz Municipal Gym.

Connie Jane Ausa of Barangay Salvacion in Trento expressed her gratitude to the senator.

“We were among those hit hard by the floods. We are thankful there are people like the senator willing to give us assistance,” Ausa said.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also distributed financial assistance to flash flood victims.

The Department of Trade and Industry assessed potential beneficiaries for their livelihood programs.

Go also did not miss the opportunity to thank local government officials for their untiring service to their constituents.

He thanked Gov. Santiago Cane Jr., Trento Mayor William Calvez and the rest of the local officials as well as La Paz Mayor Michael Lim.
