Parañaque to probe enforcers for manhandling vendor

Parañaque enforcers are seen tackling a vendor to the ground in an image taken from a video uploaded by ABS-CBN on Friday.

MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque City government will investigate an incident in which members of the city’s task force were caught on video manhandling a vendor and kicking him in the face during a clearing operation, an official said yesterday.

The video, uploaded by ABS-CBN, shows enforcers tackling the vendor to the ground when he tried to prevent them from confiscating his cart. One of the enforcers was seen kicking the vendor in the face as another enforcer handcuffed the victim.

In a Viber message to The STAR, city administrator Fernando Soriano said they “will surely investigate this to see if there is truth” to claims that an enforcer kicked the vendor in the face.

He said the task force head, retired police lieutenant colonel Rolly Santiago, would submit a report on the incident.

“Surely, we will not tolerate if there is a wrongdoing by any of our personnel,” Soriano said.
