4 siblings dead in Zamboanga del Sur fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Four children died in a fire that destroyed their house in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday.

Capt. Edwin Duco, Zamboanga peninsula police director, identified the victims as Gian Niez Colango, 9; and his brothers Njay, 8; Anthon, 7, and Christian, 4.

Duco said the victims were sleeping in their room in Barangay Lower Salug Daku when the fire broke out at around 10:05 p.m.

The parents of the victims, who were in another room, managed to escape.

The Bureau of Fire Protection has yet to determine the cause of the fire and cost of damage.
