Panagbenga postponed
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The Panagbenga Festival this year has been postponed to a still undetermined date.
The city government and the executive committee of the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. decided to postpone the Flower Festival to prevent the entry of the new COVID-19 variant, BFFFI spokesman Andrew Pinero said yesterday.
Pinero also cited the impending rollout of a vaccination program against the disease.
The city government had earlier said it approved in principle the holding of a ”toned down” festival. This means doing away with the street dancing and flower float parade.
Only the landscaping competition among schools and barangays and other activities that will not draw crowds will be allowed.
The flower festival is held in this city every February.
Last year, the Panagbenga Festival, which was moved to March, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
