MANILA, Philippines — The man who set on fire a bus conductor in Barangay Greater Fairview in Quezon City last Sunday has been identified as the victim’s former partner, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said yesterday.

The Quezon City fire bureau named the suspect as Edwin Dejos, 49, who also died after he set himself on fire inside a commuter bus along Commonwealth Avenue.

Chief Insp. Joseph del Mundo, Quezon City BFP operations head, said witnesses identified Dejos from the pictures they retrieved on his Facebook account as the same person who doused a flammable substance on conductor Ameline Sembrana, 45.

“The investigators found that the victim was his former live-in partner,” Del Mundo said in a phone interview.

Citing the report of arson probers, Del Mundo said Dejos posted threats on Facebook to Sembrana after she left him. The couple have three children.

Dejos has attempted in the past to board the bus Sembrana was on prior to the incident last Sunday, wherein four people were also injured.

“You can read on Facebook that he was very angry,” Del Mundo said.

Dejos’ body remains unclaimed at a funeral parlor in Barangay Payatas. Del Mundo said the suspect has no relatives in Metro Manila.
