‘Killer’ cop submits position paper on case

MANILA, Philippines — A Parañaque policeman accused of killing a woman and her son in Tarlac last month has submitted a position paper to the Philippine National Police’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS) in a last-ditch effort to stave off his imminent dismissal from the PNP.

M/Sgt. Jonel Nuezca’s written reply to the allegations against him was submitted by his wife last Thursday before the IAS field office at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Camp Bagong Diwa.

A source said Nuezca submitted his position paper before the five-day deadline, which expired yesterday.

The source did not give details on the contents of Nuezca’s reply on the allegations against him.

Sought for comment, IAS inspector general Alfegar Triambulo said he is still waiting for the resolution from their lawyers handling Nuezca’s administrative case.

“I-review muna bago magawa ng draft decision,” he said in a text message.

Triambulo said it is up to NCRPO director Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. on whether to approve the resolution or subject it to further review.

Triambulo earlier expressed confidence Nuezca will be dismissed from the PNP because the evidence against him is strong, referring to a viral video that caught Nuezca shooting Sonya Gregorio, 52, and her son Frank Anthony, 25, at point-blank range during a heated dispute on Dec. 20.

Nuezca, who is detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Paniqui, Tarlac, risks losing all his benefits once he is dismissed from the service. He is also barred from holding other posts in government.
