Quezon City barangay officials told: Monitor travelers from abroad
QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte yesterday directed barangay officials to closely monitor residents who arrived from other countries, especially those that have already reported detecting the new variant of the coronavirus disease.
Belmonte also directed local government officials to reinforce efforts to protect the city against the new variant of the virus, which was reported to be more contagious.
“Following the old adage ‘prevention is better than cure,’ we are now focused on stopping the new virus variant from spreading here,” she said.
To help in the close monitoring of those with travel history, Belmonte said the city government will request hotels used as quarantine facilities for a list of names of residents who were registered in their facilities in the past months.
The city government will also seek help from the Bureau of Quarantine in identifying residents who have returned from other countries.
The national government has already imposed travel restrictions on 27 countries and territories that detected the new COVID-19 variant.
