BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Talisay City in Negros Occidental has been placed under a state of calamity due to flooding on Jan. 1.
The city council approved the declaration on Wednesday, as recommended by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to allow the local government unit to use its disaster funds to assist affected families.
At least 4,661 families in 17 barangays were affected by flashfloods. Twenty-one houses were destroyed and 244 others were damaged.
Initial damage to crops and fisheries in Talisay, Silay, Victorias and EB Magalona was estimated at P20 million.
