Villar: Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge opening on track
MANILA, Philippines — Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar inspected yesterday the construction of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge replacement project, which connects the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong.
“We have implemented a catch up plan due to the two-month work suspension caused by the COVID-19 lockdown. We are confident that the project is on track for the opening in the second quarter of the year,” Villar said.
The bridge is expected to alleviate bottlenecks between Estrella street in Makati and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong.
He said the project, which is eight percent ahead of scheduled completion, is part of the EDSA decongestion program.
The 506-meter bridge is financed by a grant from China.
When completed, Villar said the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge would have four lanes from the previous two and can accommodate an average of 50,000 vehicles per day. It will also have a bicycle lane.
