Soldier cries unfair treatment, kills superior

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A soldier allegedly shot dead his superior at a military engineering camp in Barangay Cabatangan in this city on Tuesday.

The suspect, Pfc. Herbert Antonio, 31, surrendered.

The fatality was identified as T/Sgt. Joseph Caturan, 46.

Initial investigation showed the victim confronted the suspect, who was reportedly drunk, for leaving his post as duty personnel at their water tank, which overflowed.

Police said the suspect shot Caturan twice following an argument.

Antonio was reportedly disgruntled over unfair treatment of soldiers who are residents of this city compared to those who are from Luzon and the Visayas.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered two bullet casings from a 9mm pistol at the scene.
