Tagle to couples: Let Jesus write your love story
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino couples should let Jesus Christ write their love story, former Manila archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle said as he celebrated a mass over the weekend in Rome.
Putting God at the center of every relationship allows him to be a couple’s guide in everlasting love, Tagle said during his homily for the mass marking the feast of the Holy Family at the Pontificio Collegio Filipino.
“I want to suggest that even in the courting period and the engagement period, hopefully, there will be discernment... I hope that our young people, young adults who are planning to get married are already guided in discerning the will of God,” he said.
Tagle, prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, said couples should take as a challenge of their relationship how they are going to bring spirituality in discerning the will of God.
He added that the holy family of Jesus, Joseph and Mary should also be present in every relationship.
Tagle emphasized that a family becomes holy because they allow Jesus Christ to become part of their circle and “allow God to form and reform” them over and over again as a family.
He said people should not let their own desires prevail over the will of God.
