MANILA, Philippines — A man reported to be a member of the communist hit group Alex Boncayao Brigade (ABB) was killed in an alleged shootout with police in Malabon City yesterday.
Gabriel Fernandez was declared dead at the Ospital ng Malabon after he reportedly shot at police officers who served a search warrant at his house in Barangay Tonsuya at around 8 a.m.
The search warrant was issued by Malabon Regional Trial Court Judge Rosario Pinzon in connection with the charge of illegal possession of firearms, according to a report by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region chief Col. Randy Glenn Silvio.
Police officers reportedly recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45-caliber pistol and a box of bullets for the pistol from Fernandez’s house.
Fernandez reportedly led a gang engaged in contract killing and robbery-extortion, police said.
