MANILA, Philippines — A journalist for an online news portal said to be critical of the Duterte administration was arrested yesterday when police raided her house in Mandaluyong City for alleged possession of firearms and explosives.
Lady Ann Salem, editor of Manila Today and communications officer of the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT), was nabbed along with Rodrigo Esparado.
Salem was brought to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)headquarters.
The CIDG said four .45-caliber guns, four grenades and ammunition were recovered during the raid.
Manila Today was one of the media outfits linked to communists by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict during a Senate hearing on Dec. 1.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines condemned Salem’s arrest.
