Cop dead in accidental shooting

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A member of the intelligence unit of the Sagay City police in Negros Occidental died when his gun accidentally went off in Barangay Zone 4 in Cadiz City on Thursday night.

S/Sgt. Bernie Sales died while being treated at the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic, Lt. Col. Robert Mansueto, city police chief, said.

Initial investigation showed that Sales and his three companions were walking toward their vehicle when the accident occurred. One of the companions of the victim, Beverly Latosa, 25, was trying to pacify the victim, who was said to be ”angry with someone.”

Probers said the victim and Latosa would be subjected to paraffin tests. Two other persons are being investigated.
