MANILA, Philippines — Two women died and four fire volunteers were injured when a fire broke out at a residential area in Pasay yesterday.
Arson probers said Ma. Cindy Vosotros, 28, was trapped in the burning house along Tramo street, Barangay 43 at around 5:41 a.m.
Reports said Vosotros was able to hand over her baby to her husband. She got trapped when she returned to the house to save some valuables.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the other fatality as Lyn Ebena, 39.
Four fire volunteers suffered injuries. They were Aubrey Mae Bertos, 22; Rommel Montero, 19; Aaron Aldaca, 25, and Jover delos Santos, 27.
The fire destroyed at least 10 houses before it was put out before 8 a.m., according to the BFP.
Nine BFP fire trucks, 27 volunteer fire trucks and two ambulances responded to the scene.
Firefighters said they encountered difficulty in retrieving the bodies of Vosotros and Ebena as the five-story house collapsed at the height of the fire.
Authorities said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which started on the second floor of the house.
The fire displaced around 30 families who are taking shelter at the Rafael Palma Elementary School.
Damage to property was estimated at P300,000.
