PNP to conduct drug tests for trainees
MANILA, Philippines — Police trainees will undergo drug tests in a bid to rid the Philippine National Police of narco officers, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said yesterday.
In a speech during the 15th founding anniversary of the PNP Training Service, Sinas said he wants to implement random drug testing among police trainees.
“On the first day of their training, all participants should undergo drug tests,” Sinas said.
He said police officers involved in drugs have no place in the PNP.
Sinas told personnel of the Training Service to remind trainees that involvement in drugs is prohibited in the police force.
“The use of shabu, protection of drug personalities and accepting bribes from drug lords – these are all forbidden,” he said.
Sinas has vowed to go after narco cops during his term as PNP chief.
During his stint as chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, Sinas had implemented random drug tests among Metro Manila police officers.
Policemen who tested positive for drugs were either dismissed from the service or charged with administrative and criminal complaints.
