Train trips stopped due to Ulysses
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday announced that the operations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) and Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) were “suspended until further notice” after Typhoon Ulysses battered Metro Manila.
The DOTr would advise when train operations would resume “once all systems checks are done and cleared,” it added.
The PNR used its artificial intelligence (AI) surveillance system’s closed-circuit television cameras to check ground conditions, which captured flooding around its España, Pedro Gil and San Andres stations.
The MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 assured that they did not see any damage in their trains and facilities, and would continue clearing the rail tracks of obstructions and conducting safety checks on their rail systems.
The suspension of train trips yesterday left some commuters stranded in the middle of heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ulysses.
