Motorcycle rider dies in mishap

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle rider was crushed to death after he skidded under a delivery truck he tried to overtake in Tondo, Manila on Thursday night.

Mark Jefferson Manalo, 24, was speeding along Juan Luna street when he tried to overtake the truck from the right side at the corner of Raxabago street at around 11:50 p.m., police said.

Manalo, who was not wearing a helmet, swerved to his left to avoid a head-on collision with a tricycle but ended up in front of the truck, which hit him.

Manalo skidded under the truck and died at the scene. His motorcycle was wrecked beyond repair.

Probers arrested the truck driver, Ricardo Matias, and charged him with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
