MANILA, Philippines — A fire of unknown origin broke out at a residential area in Sta. Mesa, Manila yesterday afternoon.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze started at a house reportedly owned by Edilberto Layson at the corner of Road 12 and Anonas street at around 3:24 p.m.
The fire, which reached the fourth alarm at around 3:46 p.m., spread to adjoining houses near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Around 50 houses were destroyed by the fire as of press time.
Arson probers said the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
