2 ex-cop brods nabbed for murder

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two former police officers, brothers who are Oriental Mindoro’s most wanted fugitives, were arrested in Las Piñas City on Thursday.

Police officers served an arrest warrant for murder to Elmer Ozar, 55, and his brother Ramil, 51, in Barangay Pulang Lupa Uno at around 9:14 a.m., Mimaropa police spokesperson Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino said in a report.

The warrant was issued by Judge Bienvenido de Castro of Regional Trial Court Branch 42 in Pinalamayan town.

The suspects, both businessmen in Oriental Mindoro, are accused of killing Ronilo Maupay, who allegedly murdered their cousin in Pinalamayan.

Elmer became a policeman in 1987 and Ramir in 1993. However, the two went AWOL or absent without leave.

An investigation revealed Ramil arrested Maupay in Pasig City in 1995 when he was still a police officer, later killing him and making it appear the victim resisted while being transported to Oriental Mindoro.

Police said Elmer was also involved in the incident.

The brothers were brought to Oriental Mindoro to stand trial.
