Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Seventeen persons from the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City have died of COVID-19 since March while 201 others were infected, Mayor Carmelita Abalos said yesterday.

The 17 fatalities are among the 170 persons who died of COVID-19 in Mandaluyong. The city health department did not disclose who among the fatalities are NCMH patients.

The COVID-19 death toll at the NCMH has doubled since last month, when the number of fatalities was at eight while the number of infected was 102.

Abalos said of the 201 other cases at the NCMH, 151 have recovered while 50 are undergoing treatment.

Mandaluyong has at least 5,263 COVID-19 cases, with 4,669 or 88.71 percent recoveries.

The barangays with the most number of cases are Addition Hills with 764 followed by Highway Hills with 441 and Plainview with 409.

Abalos attributed the increase to the city’s aggressive testing of suspected cases and contract tracing.
