Ex-cop shot dead, wife hurt

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A former member of the Manila Police District (MPD) was gunned down while his wife was wounded in Tondo yesterday morning.

Dranreb Cipriano, 47, of Lallana street, Barangay 93, was on a motorcycle with his wife Vivian when the assailant fired at them along Vitas street in Balut at past 9 a.m.

Even if he was badly hit, Cipriano tried to pull out his gun but the suspect finished him off.

Vivian was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The gunman fled after the attack.

Probers said Cipriano was seen arguing with a man near his house on Sunday.

According to a police report, Cipriano was transferred to Region 5 in 2014 following a misunderstanding with a police official.

Instead of following his transfer order, police said Cipriano went AWOL or absent without official leave.

He had served as a police asset.
