2 dead, 7 hurt in Samar shooting

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Two persons died and seven others were wounded in a gun attack in Sta. Margarita, Samar on Monday afternoon.

Police identified the fatalities as Danny Casaljay and Orlando Layong Jr.

Condrado Calagos, chairman of Barangay Cagbayanacao; Gino and Ronnie, also surnamed Calagos; Benedecto Dacarra, Charlie Ortiz and Jefren and Ariel, both surnamed Magbutay, were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation showed the victims were on four motorcycles when they were waylaid in Barangay Ba-ay.

In Quezon, businessman Liberato de Chavez, 50, was shot dead in front of his general merchandise store in Sitio Masayahin, Barangay Montecillo in Sariaya town, also on Monday.

Investigations into the killings are underway.
