New Central Luzon police chief named

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan yesterday appointed former Central Visayas police director Brig. Gen. Val de Leon as head of the Central Luzon police.

De Leon, who was also former deputy director of the Directorate for Human Resources and Doctrine Development (DHRDD), is among the eight police officials who were given new assignments by Cascolan.

Former PNP chief Archie Gamboa sacked De Leon last February after only four months at the Central Visayas police office after some of his subordinates were caught playing golf while on duty.

As the top police official in Central Luzon, De Leon has supervision over police units in Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales.

The former Central Luzon police chief, Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, was appointed head of the Directorate for Police Community Relations.

Sermonia replaced Maj. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, who was reassigned to the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Southern Luzon.

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz of the Highway Patrol Group was transferred to the Directorate for Plans. He was replaced by Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum.

The other officials who were given new posts are Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee, who was reassigned to the DHRDD, and Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda, who is now head of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

The revamp was triggered by the retirement of former DHRDD director Amador Corpus on Oct. 3.
