LAGUNA, Philippines — The secretary of the city council of Biñan and a doctor were killed in an ambush in this province on Sunday night.
Edward Reyes, alias Edu, and Don Deocaris were declared dead on arrival at the University of Perpetual Help Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Reyes, council secretary, was a nephew of former Biñan mayor Arthur Alonte, according to city police chief Lt. Col. Giovanni Martinez.
The victims, who were in a car with two women on board, were on their way home from a fraternity event when they were ambushed along the Jubilation Road in Barangay San Antonio at around 7:30 p.m.
Probers expressed belief that Reyes was the main target of the killing.
The assailants did not harm the women.
Police said Reyes survived an ambush in 2017 that killed his security aide.
