1 dead, 2 hurt in PMA shooting
MANILA, Philippines — A soldier was killed and two others were wounded when an Air Force member went amuck and shot two of his colleagues at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City on Tuesday.
Baguio police director Col. Allen Rae Co said the suspect, Airman 2nd Class Christopher Lim, went to the enlisted personnel barracks at around 4:35 p.m. and shot S/Sgts. Joefrey Turqueza and Vivencio Raton using his M16 rifle.
Although wounded, Raton wrested control of the rifle from Lim and shot the suspect.
Turqueza was pronounced dead on arrival at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, where Lim and Raton were also taken for treatment.
PMA spokesperson Maj. Cheryl Tindog said Lim is suffering from mental illness.
Tindog assured the family of Turqueza of ”all the necessary support” from the PMA.
“The PMA is coordinating with its police counterpart for an impartial investigation and fast resolution of the case,” she said.
She said the PMA would also extend all the necessary support to Lim and Raton “to ensure that they will both surpass this difficult time.” – Artemio Dumlao, Michael Punongbayan
