John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — Around 50 kilos of chemicals and other materials used to make bombs were recovered in Ampatuan, Maguindanao on Friday.

Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division commander, said soldiers belonging to the First Mechanized Battalion also recovered ammunition for a 105-millimeter howitzer cannon and a 60 mm mortar projectile.

Uy said the bomb components were discovered in an abandoned camp of the Dawlah Islamiya, also known as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, in Barangay Salman.

The military has been conducting operations in Ampatuan and Shariff Aguak towns in response to the reported presence of armed men.
