MANILA, Philippines — A businesswoman and her two children were injured when a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed their car in Caloocan City at past midnight yesterday.

Sharon Sy was driving her Hyundai Veloster with her children Danica, 20, and Lanlan Rafael, 4, eastward at the intersection of 10th Avenue and A. de Jesus street when the speeding truck, which was southbound, skidded and overturned at around 1:40 a.m.

Rescue personnel pulled Sy and her children out of the car and took them to the Metropolitan Medical Center.

The truck driver and his helper fled the scene.

Traffic was stalled along 10th Avenue yesterday morning as city government workers rushed to clean up the cement that spilled onto the pavement.

Lt. Col. Ilustre Mendoza, assistant city police chief, said traffic investigators have coordinated with the Land Transportation Office to determine the identity of the driver and the owner of the truck.

Mendoza said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property were filed against the still unidentified driver, who is the subject of a manhunt.
