MANILA, Philippines — Muntinlupa has been selected as a finalist in this year’s leg of conservation group World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’s “We Love Cities” campaign, a public engagement initiative that aims to raise awareness on sustainable urban development.
“Muntinlupa has developed an action plan to combat the urban heat island effect that is a result of human activity and makes the city hotter than the surrounding area,” according to the WWF website.
Another finalist in the online campaign is Batangas City.
Launched by WWF in 2013, the campaign engages people across the globe in promoting sustainable urban development by voting for their favorite finalists and posting improvement suggestions for these cities, giving the general public an opportunity to vote and upgrade their city through suggestions made and addressed to decision makers.
There are 27 participating countries including the Philippines, South Korea, US, Canada, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
The online voting will run until Oct. 11 and the city with the most votes wins.
