MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Parañaque has formed “Barangay Disiplina Brigades” to curb the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the community.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez and National Action Plan Against COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. led the launching of the program, which aims to promote the spirit of volunteerism.
Olivarez said members of the brigade must ensure that the minimum health standards are implemented in the barangays.
He said brigade members who volunteered for the job should monitor their respective communities and remind their neighbors to follow the “Bida Solusyon” protocols of the Department of Health (DOH).
Each barangay brigade will provide factual information to defeat the pandemic, Olivarez said.
Members of the brigades will not be paid for their public service and will be under the supervision of barangay chairmen.
The Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic team visited Parañaque on Thursday to discuss measures to fight the disease, including COVID-19 prevention, isolation and treatment strategies.
The team also distributed face masks, shields and personal protective equipment in the city’s 16 barangays.
Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Ricojudge Janvier Echiverri, presidential adviser on the peace process Undersecretary Isidro Purisima, DOH National Capital Region director Paz Corales and Rep. Eric Olivarez also attended the launching.
