MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday fixed the alignment of the concrete barriers along the EDSA Busway for the resumption of public transportation under the general community quarantine.
MMDA EDSA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said the EDSA Busway was inspected yesterday to make sure the concrete barriers are aligned.
Over 70 road accidents have involved concrete barriers that line the EDSA Busway, but the MMDA maintained the accidents were caused by errant drivers.
The MMDA plans to replace the concrete barriers with bollards.
“Tomorrow, we will go back to where we left off on the bus augmentation,” Nebrija said of the deployment of buses that will be allowed on the road on a reduced passenger capacity and with designated stops on the median lane of EDSA.
Nebrija said obstructions on the Busway have been cleared and additional road signs installed in preparation for today’s resumption of public transportation.
Meanwhile, a utility jeep driven by a certain Roberto Derder tipped on its side along the southbound lane of EDSA in front of GMA Network yesterday morning.
Nebrija denied the driver’s claim that the accident happened as he was avoiding a pothole on the road.
The MMDA official said the driver was speeding when he hit the island separator between the service road and the flyover.
