New Westmincom chief assumes post

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. assumed his post as the new head of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) yesterday.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Gilbert Gapay led the turnover of command from Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana to Vinluan in ceremonies held here.

“Vinluan is the right man for the job as he is not new to the dynamics of the security situation in the area,” Gapay said.

The AFP chief also commended Sobejana ”for a job very well done” in addressing various threats during his watch at Westmincom.

Gapay cited the threats posed by Abu Sayyaf bandits, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and communist rebels among other lawless groups.

Sobejana was named new Army chief.
