Ambulance hits concrete barriers on EDSA
MANILA, Philippines — An ambulance figured in an accident when it collided with concrete barriers that line the EDSA Busway yesterday.
Around 70 accidents have occurred along EDSA involving the concrete barriers that line the Busway, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic chief Bong Nebrija said yesterday.
Around 100 concrete barriers have been destroyed in these road accidents, he added.
The ambulance of Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital carrying medical supplies from Pampanga hit the concrete barriers near the EDSA-Scout Borromeo intersection.
Nebrija said the ambulance driver should not blame the concrete barriers, because the Busway is wide enough even for city buses.
“I couldn’t comprehend when the driver said he was caught off guard by the barriers. You were already inside the Busway and you know you have Metro Rail Transit-3 on your left and barriers on your right,” Nebrija said in a Facebook post.
The MMDA plans to replace the concrete barriers with bollards on a portion by portion basis, he added.
The MMDA yesterday also started securing the protected bike lane from EDSA-Aurora to Magallanes, the longest bike lane launched in Metro Manila. The bike lane will be implemented until Tuesday.
