MANILA, Philippines — Up to 50 shooting stars will be visible when the Perseids meteor shower peaks tonight until tomorrow.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the meteor shower radiates from the constellation Perseus, which is located in the eastern horizon.
“Meteors are easiest to observe if there is no moonlight, light pollution and a clear sky,” PAGASA said.
August is among the best months to observe meteor showers, the agency said.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said fair weather would prevail over the country today until Friday apart from isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
Aurelio said the tropical depression spotted east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon is unlikely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
As of 3 a.m. yesterday, the weather disturbance was estimated 2,205 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
It was forecast to move west at 25 kph.
