MANILA, Philippines — A cargo vessel crashed into Pier 2 of the Manila North Harbor yesterday damaging about 10 meters of the port, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
Based on initial information reaching the PCG, the 5,593-ton M/V Ocean Abundance, owned by Oceanic Container Lines Inc., rammed the pier at past 3 a.m. after the vessel encountered engine problems.
Coast Guard personnel went to the site to assess the extent of the damage to the pier.
The PCG said the bow of the ship was also damaged.
The incident happened shortly after the cargo ship arrived at the port from Iloilo.
The Philippine Ports Authority said the shipping company would pay for the damage at Pier 2.
