33 more cops get COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-three more police officers have tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Sunday.
The latest infections brought to 2,492 the total number of PNP members infected with the virus.
A majority of the fresh cases were recorded at the National Capital Region Police Office with 19, data from the PNP showed.
The Maritime Group reported three new cases and two each were recorded at the PNP-national administrative unit and the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Zamboanga police offices.
The national operational support unit, crime laboratory and special action force as well as the Central Visayas and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Rizal and Quezon) police reported one case each.
Total recoveries within the force increased to 1,563 after 69 recovered from the disease. Deaths remain at 12.
The PNP said it is monitoring 3,019 police officers who showed symptoms of the virus or had interacted with COVID-19 patients.
Because of the continued increase in the cases, the PNP is planning to establish its second testing facility at Camp Crame.
