Vice mayor survives gun attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A municipal vice mayor in Zamboanga del Norte survived an attempt on his life by unidentified men who opened fire at his farmhouse in Gutalac town on Saturday.

Vice Mayor Joel Tendero, 56, was undergoing quarantine at the farmhouse in Barangay San Roque when the attack occurred at around 9:30 p.m. , according to Capt. Edwin Duco, public information officer of the Zamboanga regional police.

Tendero, who was on quarantine for suspected coronavirus disease 2019, managed to run for safety as the men strafed the property.

Responding police officers recovered 17 bullet shells from the scene of the incident.

Probers have yet to determine the type of firearms used in the attack.
