LGU shelter plans get support
MANILA, Philippines — The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA), an organization of private developers, has committed to carry out the housing plans of local government units (LGUs), according to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
In a statement issued yesterday, the DHSUD said it has entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the SHDA to help LGUs translate their local shelter plan into actual housing projects.
“Close collaboration between the DHSUD and partner developers is vital for the continuity of the housing and urban development in our country,” Human Settlements Secretary Eduardo del Rosario said.
Records showed that of the 1,634 LGUs nationwide, 1,571 or 96 percent have been assisted by the government in the preparation of their shelter plans.
Only 209 local shelter plans have so far been approved by the LGUs’ respective sanggunian or council.
