MANILA, Philippines — Starting tomorrow, another 1,943 traditional jeepneys will be allowed to ply 17 routes set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Metro Manila.

Under the agency’s memorandum circular, jeepneys can resume operations without special permits. But jeepney drivers are required to use QR or quick response code a special barcode to be downloaded from the LTFRB website.

The QR codes will be used by jeepney drivers to simplify road enforcement and to verify that their vehicles are allowed to transport passengers.

The LTFRB also requires jeepneys to have a personal passenger insurance policy and to pass inspections proving roadworthiness.

Operators must comply with health and safety protocols prescribed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, according to the LTFRB.
