Quake jolts Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5.6 earthquake jolted Manay town in Davao Oriental before noon yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
No damage or injuries were reported in the quake, although state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks.
The temblor occurred at 11:12 a.m., and its epicenter was located some 81 kilometers southeast of Manay. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Manay and Intensity 2 in Davao City.
Instrumental Intensity 3 was registered in Malungon, Sarangani; Intensity 2 in Alabel, and Kiamba, also in Sarangani, and Intensity 1 in General Santos City as well as in Koronadal City and Tupi, both in South Cotabato.
Instrumental intensity pertains to the shaking as recorded by an instrument called an intensity meter.
The quake was tectonic in origin, Phivolcs said.
