PNP virus cases continue to rise

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-six more police personnel have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Monday night.
The latest infections brought to 1,564 the number of PNP officers who contracted COVID-19.
The number of deaths remain at nine while 608 or 38.87 percent have recovered from the disease.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said 20 of the new patients – two officials and 18 non-commissioned officers – are from different police units in Metro Manila.
The Central Visayas police posted two cases. The Calabarzon police, Cordillera Administrative Region police, Special Action Force and Maritime Group have one case each.
At least 2,237 police personnel who have exhibited symptoms of the virus or interacted with COVID-19 patients are under monitoring, according to Banac.
The PNP has received 400 goggle masks from clothing store Redstone Apparel Inc., which will be distributed to personnel at the frontline of the government’s efforts to contain COVID-19.
