Luxury car owner fined P150 for violating bus lane

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists caught using the bus lane along EDSA would be slapped with a fine of P1,000, an official of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) clarified yesterday.

The MMDA made the statement after a driver of a Ferrari sports car got away with only P150 fine when he was caught driving along the EDSA busway near Guadalupe bridge in Makati on Saturday.

“You can’t buy class,” a netizen commented on the Facebook post of the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic after the car was pulled over by MMDA traffic enforcers.

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said it was the discretion of the apprehending officers to fine the driver P150.

Pialago said violators of the EDSA busway could still be fined P1,000, the same fine imposed for those violating the yellow lane policy for buses.
