108 BFP personnel COVID-positive
MANILA, Philippines — At least 108 Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Data from the BFP showed that no firefighter has died from the virus while 59 or 54.6 percent have recovered.
The regions with the most number of infected BFP personnel are Metro Manila with 67, including three from the BFP headquarters in Quezon City, and Central Visayas with 37.
The other regions with COVID-19 cases are Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and the Cordillera Administrative Region with one each.
At least 423 other BFP personnel who have symptoms of the virus are being monitored.
BFP spokesperson Superintendent Annalee Carbajal-Atienza assured they have protective gear such as face masks for their firefighters on the field.
“We see to it that our people are also protected,” she said.
