Maguindanao mayor survives bomb attack

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — Mayor Reynalbert Insular of South Upi town in this province was unhurt in a bomb attack on Monday.

The roadside bomb went off as Insular’s black Mitsubishi Pajero was passing by a dirt road behind the town hall in Barangay Romongaob.

The driver of the mayor was also unscathed.

It was the second attempt on Insular’s life in two years.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police are investigating the incident with the assistance of intelligence agents of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division.

Prior to the incident, Teduray indigenous people and Moro groups clashed for control of parcels of land in three barangays in the town.
