MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reminded police personnel to set an example to the public in following quarantine rules, saying law enforcers found flouting health protocols are stupid and deserving of tougher sanction.
His warning came amid public outrage over ranking officials and personnel found holding public gatherings and other lockdown violations.
“Let’s be tougher in disciplining,” he said in Filipino over radio dzMM. He said many law enforcers have been sanctioned for various violations of quarantine rules.
“I don’t know if it’s stupidity or what. It’s very simple. There’s no hospital for stupidity, now that’s the problem,” he said.
Earlier, the regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Western Visayas was relieved along with several personnel for violating lockdown rules in Boracay.
