MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started lining up the 1.2 to 1.5-meter bicycle lane along EDSA as part of the plan to set up protected bike lanes in the metropolis.

Celine Pialago, spokesperson for the MMDA, yesterday urged motorists to recognize the at-grade bike lane set up on EDSA to accommodate those cycling to work during the community quarantine.

Pialago said the bike lane would be protected with steel bollards and concrete barriers.

“But cyclists may now use the designated bike lane pending the construction,” she said.

Pialago reminded cyclists to abide by traffic rules, and private motorists not to use the lane designated for bicycle riders.

She maintained that the MMDA’s long-term plan is to build elevated bike lanes separate from the road.
