MANILA, Philippines — The number of inmates infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 has climbed to 222, the Department of Justice (DOJ) reported yesterday.
Of the number, 10 inmates died while 31 have recovered from the disease, according to Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete.
Perete said the figures were provided by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
The New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa posted the most number of COVID-19 cases with 140 followed by the Correctional Institution for Women with 82.
Perete said 59 BuCor personnel have tested positive for the virus.
On Monday, the DOJ turned over 1,400 rapid test kits to the BuCor for the testing of more inmates.
