MANILA, Philippines — Seventeen Bureau of Corrections personnel who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were transferred to a quarantine facility in Tarlac, the BuCor said Thursday night.

In a statement, BuCor said the personnel from New Bilibid Prison and the Correctional Institution for Women were transferred to New Clark City’s quarantine facility, meant for patients with mild to no symptoms.

The BuCor has recorded 161 COVID-19 cases among prisoners and 33 cases among personnel at the two state penitentiaries as of May 25.

“These BuCor staff are on their way to full recovery as they are well attended by medical staff who are constantly checking on their health. The facility has Wi-Fi and they are allowed to use mobile phones mainly to stay in touch with their families,” BuCor bared.

Other COVID-positive cases are accommodated at an isolation area in the NBP since New Clark City’s quarantine facility would not admit senior citizens and people with pre-existing medical issues, BuCor said.
